Hair Care
Questions:
1.) How often should I get my hair cut or trimmed?
Hair in general grows between 1/2-inch to 1-inch a
month. Shorter Cuts tend to need more maintenance,
particularly around the edges. Most shapes will
hold up for approximately 4-6 weeks. Thicker,
wavy, coarse hair textures can stretch to about 8
to 10 weeks.
2.) I am interested in
getting a 'new look.' How will I know what I want
and what will look good on me?
First of all you'll need to do some
research. Go through some of your favorite
magazines and cut out pictures of the styles that
appeal most to you. Begin to take notice of
hairstyles that you see on the street. Make a
mental note of what you liked and disliked about
the cut, color and texture. Once you have done
your research make an appointment for a
Consultation. Take all your "data" and communicate
in words and with pictures the style(s) that
appeal most to you. Your stylist will do the rest!
Their professional analysis of your lifestyle,
hair texture, facial shape, maintenance
requirements, etc. will determine the best look
for you. So together with your expectations and
the stylist's expertise a hairstyle will be
crafted that best suit your individuality.
3.) I am starting to see gray, should I color my
hair?
If you're happy with your color overall and want
to get rid to of the gray then color will cover it
for you. But only the areas that are graying.
Another approach is to reduce the amount of gray
by highlighting or lowlighting color into your
hair. Highlights will lighten haircolor, lowlights
will darken it. Another option is to use a
"Deposit Only" color. Or what professionals often
refer to as semi or demi permanent color. These
colors gradually fade away after 3-4 weeks. One
factor of fading is how often you wash your hair.
4.) My hair always tangles after I shower. What do
I do?
The right hair product is crucial here. I
recommend Aveda's Spray on, Leave on
Brilliant Damage Control or Styling Curressence.
These two products are ideal for combing
or brushing out tangles. They are easy to use and
require no rinsing. Another important factor is
having the right brush. In the salon we use the
"Mason Pearson" brush or Aveda Detangler comb.
Begin by towel drying your hair. After spraying
the product into the hair precede to brush/comb
the hair starting at the ends and working your way
up to the scalp. You might also want to start
using a light rinse / conditioner, like the
Rosemary Mint Equalizer or Sap Moss Detangler
after shampooing.
5.) There are so many
hair products on the market, how do I choose the
one that is right for me?
Yes, it is true; there are so so many
hair products on the market. Both in the drug
store and at your local salon. There is nothing
more valuable than a professional recommendation
from your stylist. Afterall, he/she is the
individual that knows your hair better than anyone
else! The Naturally Staff will personally
prescribe a home maintenance program that will
support your salon visit.
6.) Is it really necessary to use
"salon-professional" products, they seem to be
more expensive?
Yes, there is a difference between "salon
professional products" and those at your local
grocer or drug store. The primary is being the
quality of ingredients, manufacturing practices
and product integrity. Naturally Salon and Spa is
proud to be an exclusive retailer of Aveda: a
product line that is by far the purest, most
natural product on the market. The best product
for your hair depends on a variety of factors. Do
you color or perm your hair? Do you swim, surf or
exercise outdoors? Is your hair thick, fine,
thinning? Do you wash your hair everyday? Is your
hairstyle low maintenance or high maintenance,
require blow-drying styling or perhaps a curling
iron? All these questions and more will determine
the best products to use to maintain the "salon
look" that you love so much. And the only person
to best answer these questions, is your salon
professional. They are the ones that know your
hair and what it will take to keep it in optimal
shape. So go ahead, fire away! The Staff at Walter
Claudio Salon Spa will be happy to professional
recommend the best products for your hair.
7.) I love my hair when I
leave the salon, but how do I reproduce the look
at home?
Don't be afraid to ask questions about
how to achieve the "look" at home. Your stylist is
happy to offer tips and suggestions on how to
successfully blow-dry and style your new look. In
addition he/she will recommend the styling tools &
products necessary to achieve the style you
desire. Without the right tools you won't get the
results.
Color Consultation
Questions:
After years of coloring your hair at home or never
having had color before, you've decided to have
your color done at a salon. The most important
first step is the consultation. This all-important
session is more than just letting your color
stylist know what shade you want it is about
ensuring that you'll be happy with your "new hue".
Pictures, Pictures and more pictures are crucial.
Bring your own photos into the salon or choose
from the salon's style catalogs. And communicate.
Here are a few hints:
8.) How much maintenance
will my color require?
"Everybody's excited about coming in
and getting a new color, but when it's three weeks
later and they have roots they say, "you didn't
warn me this was going to happen!" The color
process that is chosen must work with your
schedule, lifestyle and budget. I.e. if you're
ultra-busy, a low maintenance color (like subtle
highlights) is your best bet.
9.) How much will it
cost?
Hair Color prices varies according to
the number of processes applied or not to mention
the maintenance factor. For example a "color/regrowth"
may initially be less expensive but you will have
to return to the salon every 3-4 weeks.
10.) How long will each
appointment last?
"Highlights normally take an hour and
half at the very least-and they could go a lot
more". Double process color takes about two hours,
and single process, 40 minutes to an hour. It will
also depend on how quickly your hair responses to
the process.
11.) What will happen to
the quality of my hair?
While color today is gentler that ever,
it will affect you hair's texture. Your colorist
should be up-front about possible damage and the
conditioning steps you'll need to take to
counteract it. Professionally recommended products
are a must for color treated hair. Don't spare the
expense, it will keep your hair color looking and
feeling it's best.
12.) What is the difference between permanent and
semi-permanent hair color?
The primary difference is that semi-permanent hair
color is a "deposit only" type of color. The
maintenance factors with semi or often referred to
as demi permanent color is that it typically fades
out gradually. If you choose to repeat the service
you may do so otherwise it will simply wash away.
The typical length of staying power. The more
frequent you wash the quicker it will fade away.
The benefit of the semi / demi colors is that they
give the hair luster, shine and manageability. It
also gives you the client the chance to see or
experience with haircoloring or new colors without
a long-term commitment.
The opposite is true with permanent hair color. A
developer is used in the formula to "set" the
color. It requires maintenance, about 4-6 weeks
depending on the rate of hair growth, number of
washings and the products used to maintain your
hair.
13.) How will I know what type or process of hair
color will work best for me?
This where, a professional Consultation
is crucial. The first place to start is to do some
homework. Page through fashion magazines and our
hair styling catalogs in the salon to find a look
that appeals to you. Share these images with your
stylist. It is at this point where he or she will
ask you a variety of questions concerning your
lifestyle, maintenance factors, etc. Based on the
responses you provide (being as descriptive as
possible is important) they will begin to
recommend the hair coloring process that will best
achieve the results that you are after. Remember
that the best hair color is color that accents
your features and compliments your lifestyle.
14.) I did something really stupid. I bought a box
of haircolor from the drug store and now my hair
is really messed up? Help, what do I do? Can you
fix it?
Ah, the perils of Corrective coloring. Have a
seat, relax and take a deep breath. What we don't
want to do is rush and try to remedy the situation
in a hurry. Corrective Color takes time, expertise
and the knowledge of an experienced haircolorist.
The process of restoring your hair to its original
color or the color desired may take 2- 4 visits
and various processes. It requires patience, time
and resources. Because of the possibility of
various processes and multiple salon visits, cost
is a factor. So, be patient and remember that
there's no magic involved, just a great colorist
doing the best they can with what they have to
work with. A through Consultation is the first
order of business. It is during this consultation
that the steps will be outlined and a plan put
into action. Your stylist/ colorist will do their
best to give you an estimate of the cost and
amount of time needed to complete the process of
restoring your hair color. Remember that this is
an estimate. Due to the nature of haircolor,
especially corrective coloring
15.) I just got my hair
colored and I love it! What should I do to keep it
looking great?
The color specialists at Walter Claudio
recommend Aveda's Personal Blends Shampoo and
Conditioner. Use the prescribed shampoo and
conditioner once a week, leaving the product in
your hair for 3 minutes prior to rinsing.
16.) What is so special
about this product and why is it necessary?
A proper Home Maintenance Program is
vital to long lasting, vibrant hair color. It will
protect your investment and keep your color
looking it's best. Your colorist will especially
formulate this personalized color enhanced shampoo
and conditioner to compliment your in salon color
formula. Using it faithfully will enhance and
maintain your color in-between salon visits while
giving your hair the nourishment it so desperately
needs. To top it off you will have the opportunity

and conditioner that is just for you.

instruct you on specific after-care for the
treatments you received.

under treatment. What treatments are okay for me

here. Decide which treatments you are interested

definitely not good for me?
As with all medical conditions, check with your

Body Wrap or any treatments that produce excessive
body heat are deemed appropriate for pregnant

Treatment and Puresciptions Hair treatments are
excellent choices. But, as with anything, always
check with your health care provider.

Spa treatment. What treatment do you recommend for
a first time Spa goers?

your well being and appearance. A consistent

the two most important things. Coupled with these
is taking care of your mind and spirit. Mediation,
Journeling are just a few wellness activities that
will boost your being. And of coarse, regular
scheduled time for "yourself" is essential. That
is where spa appointments are crucial. Take time
out to create your own beauty rituals. Massages
facials and body treatments not only keep you
looking great, but also you will feel cared for
and pampered. Something that is vital to your

the massage session hydrated and continue drinking

you can discuss with your therapist. If it is an
injury that you are looking to relieve pain from,
it may be recommended that you receive several
treatments in a short period of time and then

them properly?
Many women have this same concern. The hair on
your chin is generally a sign of hormonal changes.

Waxing
Questions:
41.) I have never had a

Let your hair grow out as long as
possible. Do not shave for at least 3-4 days prior
to an appointment. Also inform your service
provider if you are under any medical supervision,
treatment or taking prescription drugs.
42.) I am going on
vacation. When should I get my legs and bikini
waxed?
The best time to have your appointment
is no longer than 2 days prior to your departure.
43.) Will waxing hurt?
Each person has a varying degree of pain tolerance
so it is hard to say how you will react. But
generally, because of the expertise of our service
providers, the quality of product used and the
aftercare administered you should experience a
minor discomfort. With repeated sessions it will
be less and less.
44.) Is waxing better than shaving?
Waxing is an excellent way of removing hair from
various areas of the body. The hair can remain
smooth, soft and hairless for 4-6 weeks.
45.) My skin is very sensitive can I wax?
Clients with sensitive skin find waxing a great
alternative. Many clients may rash from shaving
and find relief with waxing.
46.) How often should I
wax?
It defintely depends on how fast your
hair grows, but normally a good rule of the thumb
is 3-4 weeks intervals.
47.) What type of Wax do you use?
The Spa Staff at Naturally is proud to use "Green
Wax," Azulene infused into a combination of honey
and pine resin. Exellent for all skin types
especially sensitive skin.
48.) Is it true if I wax does the hair come in
darker and coarser?
This is false; hair grows in finer and softer.
Continual waxing will start to damage the hair
follicles causing the hair growth to slow down.
49.) Do men have waxing services?
Yes, many men have waxing services. The waxing
services range from back, chest and eyebrow waxes.
50.) Can I wax if I use Retin-A or if I am having
chemical peels at Doctor's office?
No, the use of Retin-A and the acid in many
chemical peels can leave the skin very dry. The
use of warm wax to the area being treated can
cause the skin to tear. An alternative to waxing
the areas being treated is to have your
Esthetician tweeze.
